Establishing Belize’s Recyclers and Waste Management Association

Belize’s waste and recycling sector had long operated without a shared platform where the full range of stakeholders, from informal waste pickers through to importers, distributors, and recyclers, could engage meaningfully with each other and with government. WREN led the multi-stakeholder consultation process to address that gap, engaging the private sector, civil society organizations, and government agencies through targeted workshops and one-on-one meetings. The outcome was the establishment of the Caribbean’s first registered recyclers and waste management association, the Belize Recyclers and Waste Management Association (BRWMA), giving the sector a unified and credible voice in shaping the country’s waste management future. WREN supported BRWMA’s legal registration as an NGO and continued working alongside the association as it developed its governance structures.
