IUCN Plastics in the Caribbean

As part of IUCN’s regional “Closing the Plastics Gap” initiative, WREN led a national-level assessment of plastic waste flows and reduction partnerships in St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The project focused on quantifying plastic waste generation and leakage across the waste management, tourism and fisheries sectors, supported by detailed data mapping, stakeholder engagement, and validation processes. WREN also identified key actors and partnership opportunities to support future recycling and policy initiatives. The work contributes to a broader regional effort to implement adaptive, circular economy solutions that create local livelihood opportunities, particularly for women, youth, and community-based groups.
