State of Knowledge and National Plastics Source Inventory for Solomon Islands

WREN was engaged by the Solomon Islands Government to deliver technical consulting services in support of national efforts to quantify and address plastic pollution. The project focused on conducting a comprehensive stock take of the country’s plastic waste situation and delivering a detailed State of Knowledge (SoK) report. Following the SoK, with support from the Environment and Conservation Division, WREN led targeted data collection through waste audits and investigations to fill critical information gaps and produced a National Source Inventory (NSI) that documented the types and volumes of plastic materials entering the country, how they are managed, and where they are leaking into the environment. Outputs included two technical reports: The State of Knowledge report and the National Source Inventory for Solomon Islands. The data has been incorporated by UNEP into the Country Dashboard at the Global Plastics Hub: https://globalplasticshub.org/country-dashboard?country=Solomon+Islands&countryCode=SLB. The data is also being used for the preparation of the National Plastics Strategy for Solomon Islands.
