Efficient waste management is essential for maintaining public health, reducing environmental degradation, and supporting the global drive towards sustainability. However, many communities and organizations in the Pacific region struggle with inconsistent and incomplete data on waste generation, collection, and disposal. SPREP has released the Regional Waste Data Collection, Monitoring, and Reporting (DCMR) Framework to standardise data collection and reporting on waste management practices. The DCMR Framework has been developed to ensure waste data is collected, analysed, and reported in a consistent and reliable way across the Pacific. In collaboration with Eunomia, WREN trialed the DCMR framework and delivered updated waste management (collection, disposal, leakage) and infrastructure data across 14 Pacific Island Countries and Timor-Leste. Training was conducted in each country to build the capacity of local counterparts to collect and maintain this data over time. The WREN team led analysis and reporting in eight countries and carried out fieldwork in ten, producing a robust regional evidence base to support informed planning and investment decisions.
