Waste Audit Methodology – A Common Approach

In 2017, Amardeep authored a detailed waste audit methodology that is applicable to data collection in the unique conditions of SIDS, providing a standard methodology for undertaking audits that cover the following:

  • Household kerbside waste;
  • Commercial premises;
  • Landfills;
  • Assessment of the current collection systems;
  • Assessment of current infrastructure;
  • Assessment of the current legislation and policy framework; and
  • Assessment of the current range of financial mechanisms available in the country.

By adhering to the set methodology, performance comparisons can be made with other countries when undertaking the feasibility analysis for movement and processing of material for recycling, reuse and reduction. Also, all future data collected using this methodology can be used to determine the impact of any programs or projects implemented in the region which aim to improve participating countries’ waste management and recycling performance. The methodology has been used in more than 15 SIDS for waste auditing purposes across the Pacific and the Caribbean.
