Using the IMO specified methodology to conduct port waste reception facilities audit, combined with information on waste generated at sea by tdifferent vessels within the EEZ of each country, the reports estimated the waste being generated and potentially leaked at sea by maritime activities.
In addition, noting the challenges faced by countries to provide adequate waste reception facilities for vessels, the reports outlined several recommendations to improve these facilities at ports and assist in meeting obligations under international, national and local laws.
Amardeep led the teams that conducted the port waste reception facilities audits in the countries mentioned above. The data and information generated has led to a range of interventions, including the development of a National Marine Litter Action, a Ports Upgrade Feasibility Study, as well as the National Maritime Transport Policy for Belize.
